I was engaged to this MPH Construction project by a local electrical contractor, System Electrical, who were tasked with bringing life to the external lighting concept for this public realm area of Chester Train Station.
The client was looking to create an area that could be used for various public functions, such as markets, street trading experiences and themed events. They had a very good idea of what they wanted the lighting to look like, which from a designer’s point of view is very helpful, so my main job was to find the style of lighting that complimented the concept whilst ensuring that the project budget could be kept as low as possible.
So I put together a package of external luminaires that met the design brief and were in line with the project’s budget. These were accepted by the client, and after a few evolutionary revisions, the proposed lighting scheme was installed by March 2016.
The main construction contractor recently informed me that the site was up for a RICS Award.
